Richard Hooper has devoted his career to the technology, media and telecoms (TMT) sector. A founder of the Open University, on the BBC side, he has been closely involved in innovation. He was one of the small group of people who pioneered Prestel/viewdata, the forerunner of the world wide web. Prestel pioneered the hyperlink, email, and micropayments. He was CEO of one of the first satellite broadcasting channels, Superchannel, and was founding deputy chairman of Ofcom. He has chaired two independent reviews for the British Government - on the future of the Royal Mail and on copyright licensing. He was chair of Informa plc and deputy chairman of VocaLink which runs the UK’s faster payments and BACS systems. He was awarded a CBE for services to the communications industry.
