“The Moonstone” (1868) by Wilkie Collins follows the story of Rachel Verinder who inherits a large diamond (which is the moonstone) from her corrupt uncle and wears it to her birthday party. The moonstone is extremely valuable and religious figures have searched for it their entire lives. On the night of the party, the moonstone goes missing and the search begins in solving the mystery as to what had happened to it. "The Moonstone” story was believed to have been one of the first English detective stories.
