With her third release, Undone (Cowgirlie Publishing), indie author Michele J. Hale has proven what her diehard fans already know: Hale is a hip, underground Katherine Forrest for the 21st century. Undone follows lesbian tattoo artist Dizzie Marshall, a funky philanthropic trust fund baby with a fondness for square girls and a penchant for mystery solving. Though this is a comic mystery without the usual bloody corpse, Undone is a quirky page-turner that reads like an adult Nancy Drew mystery (with, of course, more bedhopping). Though the whodunits in Undone surround Dizzie’s own life and aren’t always uniquely queer, there’s plenty of dyke drama in this witty and wonderful novel: with a crazy fire-starter, cult member ex-girlfriend and sexy, tattoo-wannabe one-night stands, how could there not be? Those who have yet to warm to Hale’s brand of edgy alt fiction will be excited to discover this indie gem, the first from Hale’s own Cowgirlie Publishing imprint. For the rest of us, we’re eagerly waiting for the next installment." - Curve Magazine
