Callie Montgomery prefers to be alone in the desert of Egypt digging in the sand for ancient artifacts instead of in London where her psychometry is looked upon as the devil's mark. When her adopted uncle, the Prince Consort, summons her home she is confronted with the very thing she wished she could forget.

Dante has spent the last two centuries trying to give penance for the addiction that caused his family's lives. Now that he's finally started to find comfort in his inventing, the British Prince Consort and his own British Council has decided that isn't his fate. Dante must escort a human woman to a mysterious countdown clock.
