Tomorrow

To-Morrow by Joseph Conrad was a sad story about a man, Captain Hagberd, who drove his son away with a belt lashing and suffered the rest of his life with the illusion that his son would return home tomorrow. He had a blind and helpless tenant who had a daughter, named Bessie.

Captain Hagberd promised Bessie that his son would surely marry her since she was the only intelligent girl in their town. She would indulge him, but in her heart she was hoping that this wonderful son would have her. The life she lived was as a servant to her blind father and as an understanding neighbor to the Captain.
