Long before he found the murdered European environmentalists in a Polish forest, freelance journalist Thierry Kaplan's interest in saving the environment took him to Florence, KY where he tried to talk a young graduate student afflicted with radiation poisoning into going public with what she discovered about the recycling of radioactive metals.
