Stan stood there, frozen in time, looking down at this woman who was so familiar, yet so much a stranger. He didn't even know her name, yet he was the last person that she had seen as she took her last breath on this earth.
This woman was washed up on the San Diego harbor, just this morning. He had dreams of killing her last night, then this morning, his boss had called him and told him to come quickly to the station. His boss informed him that a body had washed up on the San Diego harbor, and she was the cousin of his wife.
He hurried into work, worried that his secret had been found out. The whole way to work, his hands were sweating, in fact he was a sweaty mess by the time he opened up the doors to his office. Since he was a top, high profile medical examiner, he had the biggest office in the entire building. This is because his office also consisted of two metal slabs where the dead bodies were placed to be examined, and many cabinets for all of his equipment that he needed.
There were two swinging doors that separated his work area, where the bodies were placed, and his desk area. The entire time he was driving, and while walking into the building, his mind was trying to wrap around what had happened.
‘It was just a dream.’ He kept saying over and over to himself. Then, when he walked into his office, and saw the once beautiful brunette laying on that metal slab. She was naked, with a thin white sheet covering her body. Her eyes had broken blood vessels, which was a tell-tale sign that she had been strangled. He couldn't catch his breath.
