The Brand, A Tale of the Flathead Reservation

 Bess and her brother Jim are headed for a cattle ranch owned by Henry, an old friend of Jim’s from their days at Harvard University. Jim plans to start works as Henry’s foreman. Meanwhile, 20-years-old Bess is looking forward to her first taste of freedom after being schooled at a convent. 

Luckily, Henry West is as handsome as he is rich and he falls for Bess. Unfortunately, Henry is half white and half Indian. For Bess, that is a problem. Rather than follow her heart, she allows herself to be entertained by David Davis, a government agent of the Flathead reservation who knows a well-kept secret involving the honor of Henry’s deceased sister.
