Jean Jacques Rousseau was a great philosopher and one of the founders of the modern system of philosophy. He is in the row with the greatest thinkers as Aristotle, Isaac Newton, John Locke, Immanuel Kant, David Hume, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, and John Stuart Mill. Their thoughts has had strong influence on building the foundation of the United States and its endeavor of open society.
In 1762, Rousseau completed Emile, or On Education his best and most important of all his writings. The book is a treatise on the nature of education and on the nature of man; but was banned in Paris and Geneva due to the section "Profession of Faith of the Savoyard Vicar" in the book. Rousseau addressed the relationship between the individual and society by calling out that "Everything is good as it leaves the hands of the Author of things; everything degenerates in the hands of man".
Rousseau further described a system of education that would enable the natural man to survive corrupt society. He also included a guide and some specific advice on raising children in the book.
During the French Revolution, Emile or On Education was served as the inspiration for a new national system of education in France. The book also has had the most impact on Enlightenment. It is regarded as the first philosophy of education in Western culture.
Rousseau’s work has produced great influence on modern philosophy and logic. His view became widely recognised as the foremost philosophical voice and his influence has been felt in nearly every field of the humanities and social sciences.
This book is one of the most important ones about Philosophy, Enlightenment, and Education by Rousseau, one of the greatest thinkers of modern philosophy on the planet.
