Herman Melville (1819-1891) was an American sailor, novelist, writer of short stories, and poet.
“The Piazza Tales” (1856) is the collection of short stories by Herman Melville, included six short pieces. Initially, the collection should be titled "Benito Cereno" and other stories ", but then Melville changed his mind and wrote an introductory essay "The Piazza ". In that period Melville had entered in a phase of the psychological experiment, so the main theme of “The Piazza Tales” is the artistic comprehension of reality.
