Charlotte M. Yonge was an English teacher and Victorian era author of many fiction and non-fiction works, who dedicated her talents as a writer to the service of the church and was widely read and respected in the nineteenth century. “Heartsease; Or, The Brother's Wife”, published in 1854, is a story about Violet--a sweet, 16-year-old girl who marries into a rich cold family, and slowly teaches all of the family members affection, patience, and Christian virtue by her own exercise of the same. Yonge's fiction often comprised of large Victorian families, her heroines often women, her characters painfully detailed, yet with clarity, freshness and charm. We present you the novel, which is rightly considered as one of Yonge’s best works. Enjoy the reading!
