Is the Game Worth the Candle?

James Shepard (1875-1947) was an American writer and educator, the founder of the North Carolina Central University.

 ‘Is The Game Worth The Candle?’ is a short inspirational piece of literary work that represents Shepards’ meditation on the role of the attitude a man works with and the way it influences his doing. He tells us about two cousins whose approaches to the work are quite different: the first one works hard and the second one thinks that the world is indebted to him for a good time.
