Ricky Sherman lives under the shadow of his father, Big Dick, a big, abrasive former investigative journalist that hasn’t written a thing in over twenty years and leaves an aroma of cinnamon whiskey every place he passes through. When Ricky falls on the wrong side of a libel lawsuit that sinks a hundred year old media institution, Big Dick offers to mentor him in a scheme to resurrect the company’s name. Ricky is teamed up with a secretive and volatile volunteer named Veronica to hit the streets and pick up the news as it happens. Veronica has her own objectives for their mission and once Big Dick’s scheme is found to be toxic she takes the lead and brings Ricky with her. With a big name behind her and a platform for the distribution of ideas, Veronica’s reach extends well beyond the city’s limits. Veronica provides the leads, Ricky produces the text. His writing falls into a groove as he takes aim at crime, corporations, governments and hypocrisy in general. He always wanted to be a writer, he was ready for it. The actions that his words engender however, that’s something else entirely.
