In this first of two books, we are introduced to the boy who lived alone on Bird Rock for ten years; a fact only known to a few on the Islands of Wonder, the islands of his ancestry. His living there would be of great interest to the powerful monarchy of Paragon established on another island to the north. 
An unprecedented storm disturbs the claim of Paragon to control the weather, beginning a change of events that will not stop until the mystery of Bird Rock can be solved.
