Whilst vacationing in the French Canadian countryside, the master tailor and occasional amateur sleuth H.B. Treadgold is drawn into the mystery of the ominously named, Manoir de Mort Homme - 'Dead Man Manor'. The house has been abandoned for years, but there have recently been reports of noises and lights within the grounds. Local gossip harps on old legends of the ghosts said to roam the building, but Treadgold is convinced that more prosaic activities are afoot. But a chance to make the acquaintance of the Manor's new residents only leads to further mysteries - as well as a terrible tragedy which Treadgold is called upon to avenge...
Originally published in 1936, this is a vintage murder mystery by a prolific British writer, whose thrillers were praised by Dorothy L. Sayers for their 'verve', 'gusto' and 'conviction'.
