New Year's Eve at Manning Carleton's house on Fifth Avenue. A select company have gathered to ring out the old year. But Carleton and his guests are in for a macabre surprise - the unexpected delivery of a package containing a human skeleton. Just as sinister is the note attached to this gruesome specimen: "Long years ago you murdered me; / As I am now, you soon shall be!"
Soon the prophecy is fulfilled. Carleton is found murdered in his study, behind a securely locked door. Who did the deed? And how did the murderer escape? It takes all the guile and cunning of Kenneth Carlisle, detective and ex-star of silent films, to solve the riddle of the skeleton at the feast!
