The story of Azira, Royal Prince of Hagash, begins when an evil man takes control of the city.

His parents murdered, and afraid for his life, Azira has no choice but to flee into the desert. 

Trudging mile after mile, he eventually collapses from exhaustion, feeling certain that this is the end.

It's then that he is rescued by a beautiful, dark-brown dog, who gives him water to drink and food to eat.  She shows him how to survive on their new, lakeside home, by the edge of the desert and grassland, not far from the forest.

When she is so wonderful and so good to him, how can he fail to love her? 

The two of them live happily together for years, far away from humanity, not needing anyone else.

Then another city sends a woodcutting party to the forest ... And everything changes!

Can Azira adapt to life in the city again, now he's become a wildman?  And will he change his belief that people and cities are just plain evil?

Above all, who does he love most - the beautiful Princess of Nimmur, or his own beloved, beautiful dog?
