This is the second book in the Rupert Grammaticus series continuing from Orphan’s Struggle.
Rupert has achieved his immediate goal of staying on at school and he starts in the sixth-form of Fishenham Academy. Against his better judgement, Miss Roberts persuades him to study French as one of his ‘A’ level subjects and Rupert agrees, mainly because he can sit next to Kate in the lessons. He continues working towards his plan’s goals and while he is on a camping trip with Colin, they both admit of having a yearning to belong to a family. A relationship with Kate develops but the difference in their backgrounds and the prejudice that comes with it leads to a series of disastrous events. Without a family to support him, Rupert has to fight back on his own.
