Remmie Colorado can’t find his place. As the only teenager on Locus he is alone between the adults and the young children. With no friends he often sets off on his own for days at a time. When he sneaks out of the village across the treacherous isthmus, Seamus is forced to go after him. Together they discover a new land mass and clues that point to something hiding below the surface. An injury forces them to delay their exploration and return to the village.

When a new illness afflicts a loved one Seamus is forced to balance his curiosity and desire to join the explorers with his need to stay close to home. Locus is slowly revealing its secrets and while the humans will soon have the ability to explore widely they face a new threat that will raise more questions.
