Markhat’s new case seemed simple enough. Someone is performing clandestine land surveys about the Werewilk estate, and Lady Werewilk demands to know who, and why. Markhat suspects a simple land grab is in play, a grab probably orchestrated by a greedy nephew or a scheming band of distant cousins. Despite the estate’s remote location, deep in a haunted forest well beyond Rannit’s old walls, Markhat figures on a quick resolution and, best of all, a fat, easy fee.

But there is something in the woods known as the Banshee’s Walk. Something old, something deadly.

Something that is stirring from centuries of slumber.
