When Angela meets Mark at a local bookstore, his mysterious demeanor and candid attraction influence her to explore dating outside of her comfort zone. What she knows of black men is limited to distant exposure. But with Mark, it’s responding to butterflies and the thrill of chance.
Her best friend Paula hears of her excitement and sets a path of destruction by redirecting Angela’s dating interest. She creates fear and resentment by exploiting public humiliation. Paula swears to have Angela’s best interest at heart and forces her to enjoy men of the same race.
Angela follows her best friend’s advice until situations cause her to befriend, Margo, a bohemian artist, and Karen the successful businesswoman and Margo’s bestie. They expose Angela to social issues and opens her yes to self-confidence.
