J . M. Coetzee was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003. The author of eighteen books, he has won many literary awards, including the Booker Prize (twice), the Prix Etranger Femina, and the Commonwealth Writers Prize. A native of South Africa, he now lives in Adelaide, Australia.
