Tissue Engineering: Principles for the Design of Replacement Organs and Tissues

Saltzman (chemical and biomedical engineering, Yale U.) developed the volume from his lecture notes for graduate and senior undergraduate courses attended mostly by students of engineering. He begins by presenting developmental biology as a foundational science; and exploring certain areas of biology that are presumed fundamental to practicing tissue engineering, among them the adhesion, growth, and motility of cells. The third section focuses on tissue engineering itself, explaining in quantitative terms the core elements based on the use of synthetic materials. Chapter-end exercises are included.
