Hypnosis: Developments in Research and New Perspectives

The new subtitle of this updated reprint of a classic survey of the field of modern hypnosis represents the emphasis on research. The new preface notes that some 1,000 scientific publications have appeared on the subject since the 1972 version of the first edition, particularly in the areas of theory and methods; 342 are listed. Fromm (1909-2003; formerly, emeritus, psychology, U. of Chicago) and Shor (formerly, psychology, U. of New Hampshire) introduce 22 chapters on all aspects of the field by the editors and authors including Hilgard, from the nature of consciousness to research in specific areas.
