Biochemical Reaction Engineering

This textbook comprehensively covers fundamental and advanced aspects of biochemical engineering along with MATLAB codes. It comprehensively covers important topics including enzyme catalyzed reaction kinetics, catalytic antibodies and non-protein biomolecules as catalysts, process flow diagram (PFD), piping & instrumentation diagram (P&ID), wastewater treatment processes, design of fermenters and mass and energy balance. Soumya Sasmal is currently working as Assistant Professor at Department of Biotechnology in Visva Bharati, West Bengal, India. He holds a master’s degree in biotechnology and PhD in Chemical Engineering. He possesses over three years of corporate research experience as a Scientist, as well as more than eight years of teaching experience in various government agencies such as Netaji subhas University of Technology, New Delhi, Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing, Mohali. The development of bioreactors to produce biofuels from lignocellulosic biomasses and microbial fermentation are two of his main research interests. He possesses almost a decade of research and teaching expertise in the domains of bioenergy, bioprocessing, biofuel, and food.

Kaustubha Mohanty has obtained his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute Technology Kharagpur and is currently working as Professor and Head of Chemical Engineering department at Indian Institute Technology Guwahati. His key research areas are biofuels, biological wastewater treatment, membrane technology, microalgae biorefinery, biomass pyrolysis and water-energy nexus. He has published more than 200 research papers in several peer-reviewed journals. He serves as Editor-in-Chief, and Editorial board member of various peer reviewed eminent journals in the fields of bio and chemical process. He is a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, Fellow of Biotech Research Society of India, Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and Fellow of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers.
