Carolyn was born in London England and trained as a Registered Nurse and Midwife in Edinburgh, Scotland. She received her Intensive Care Nursing Certificate in Sydney Australia. She lived in California USA for 20 years where she also was a Registered Nurse. After 25 years in nursing she returned to Scotland where she started a Complementary Therapy Clinic which ran successfully for 15 years. Carolyn also trained in Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Laying on of Hands Touch. She also trained in Reflexology and Bowen Technique Therapy. It was during her many years working with patients and seeing their stresses, especially when facing a life-threatening illness that she realized that the mental and emotional issues of the patient were not being addressed. Carolyn was inspired to write this book because she felt that reduction of stress was a key element in healing potential. Traditionally fears of dying are not encouraged to be expressed until the patient is sent to Palliative Care. Carolyn feels strongly that there is a need for change in this approach. By encouraging patients, families, medical and nursing staff to openly discuss fears of dying from the onset of diagnosis, stress can be reduced which allows for improved healing.
