Anakarin Marshall, a Southern middle-aged woman, has been a dutiful wife and mother for the past thirty years. Now that her two sons are grown, successful and on their own, she makes great strides to devote more time to herself, her husband and to their relationship. She is enjoying her new-look and style and so is her husband, Michael Marshall.
While on a business trip with him to an exclusive hotel in California, Anakarin is kidnapped by Justin McKinney, an eccentric and wealthy man who is also Michael's employer. McKinney becomes obsessed with making her into the woman he loved and lost through a dreadful tragedy by drugging Anakarin and then brainwashing her into believing she is actually his wife, Anne.
Michael is involved in the ghastly plot and becomes consumed with guilt, tries to undo his indiscretion, but finds Justin McKinney is more than a powerful adversary.
When Anakarin actually falls in love with Justin McKinney, he also becomes remorseful and tries to make amends. The story develops further into an unbelievable awakening when Anakarin's memory begins to bring her past into focus once more.
