In 2000, aged forty-nine, Sally McNichol’s life changed forever when her mother handed her a small bundle of letters and postcards. What began as a casual examination of family correspondence became the catalyst for a profound personal voyage, one that led her through decades of silence and loss as she searched for the truth about her Viennese family.

Revelations about the past can be challenging and painful but they can also transform our sense of identity.
