Concerns over such events as 9/11, the ban of religious signs in France, the 2005 riots in the French suburbs, and the Danish political cartoons have translated into an excessive preoccupation both in public discourse and academia with the cultural loyalty of diasporic youth in Western Europe. Using Germany and France as prime examples, Voicing Diasporas discusses the role of diasporic radio in the complex and critical process of identity formation amongst this group.
