Gonzalez’s vibrant artwork while Carolina Fernandez’s words remind us to embrace living with and near people who bring their own history and traditions to our communities. After all, it’s important to remember: we all make up one human race!

Carolina Fernandez is proud to belong to a big Colombian family, who she calls an ＂army of love.＂ Born in Miami, Florida, she draws inspiration from the melting-pot city where she grew up. Being raised by immigrants shaped her identity and worldview, fostering in her a deep love for community and a lifelong desire to use her talents for good. Carolina is passionate about creating works that evoke a sense of empathy and belonging in people of all ages.

Alyssa M. Gonzalez is a freelance illustrator based in Kansas City. She has a passion for creating vibrant depictions of the diversity she sees in her daily life. She infuses her experiences growing up in Miami, Florida, as the only child of Cuban-Colombian immigrant parents, into her artwork. She is the illustrator of other proudly Latine kids’ books such as Tons of Palabras: Comida.
