Prostitution, Trafficking and Traumatic Stress

Considering sex trafficking to be merely the globalized form of prostitution, both forms of oppression that should not be glibly whitewashed by terms such as the ＂sex worker industry,＂ Farley (of the San Francisco-based organization Prostitution Research & Education) presents seventeen papers that seek to promote the understanding of prostitution as a form of organized intrapersonal violence and discuss methods of healing the inevitable trauma that results. The contributions are divided into two sections separately addressing these two goals, with those in the first half examining the experiences of trafficked and prostituted women (and men in one instance) in different geographical settings, while those in the latter half explore the psychological ramifications of resultant trauma and describe social service and political programs for addressing the problem.
