The "Buildings of the United States" series, commissioned by the Society of Architectural Historians, aims to publish a volume devoted to each state systematically documenting its architectural heritage. Hawaii's particularities are discussed in an introductory chapter, followed by sections devoted to each of the six major islands. Each section begins with a brief introduction. Following are numbered entries describing noteworthy buildings. Line drawn maps and thumbnail b&w photos support the descriptions. The index includes the names of architects, builders, cities and towns, and major buildings.
