Brian Williamson uses fantasy-based learning to teach maths to young and old alike. He believes that there is always a joke or a surprise hiding round the corner ... and that daydreaming can be a great way to learn!! Brian has worked independently as a full-time one-to-one tutor since submitting his Ph.D. thesis in June 1985. Prior to this he worked as a Research Officer in Computational Statistics at Bangor University. He took a sabbatical year in 1988 to study for a master’s degree in special educational needs at Manchester University. The role and approach Brian adopts in the community is as follows: - -Visiting children and students in their homes, schools, colleges and universities. -Supporting families who are home-educating. -Using a free-place and low-fee scheme to help some individuals. -Talking to parents and helping to build support networks. -Appropriate record keeping and archiving of successful teaching and learning strategies. -Making teaching notes and sketches for his comic maths books.
