Detective Inspector Joseph Rafferty is having a bad week – two pensioner suicides already and he can’t help feeling trouble comes in threes. Also niggling in his mind is the fact that Llewellyn, his posh sergeant, has brought a ‘bargain’ suit from Rafferty’s Ma. Sure to be stolen goods, the suit is bound to drop Rafferty in it when the holier-than-thou Llewellyn wears it on his wedding day – with the hated Superintendent Bradley in attendance….

Rafferty’s first premonition turns out to be accurate when a company manager is found dead at his desk. The tyrannical Barstaple had known full well that he was hated by most of the office. But did he really deserve to be poisoned? And so horribly.

Rafferty thinks his week has been trying enough. But then someone else is poisoned and from bad to worse becomes worse again. And when you take the ‘bargain’ suit into the equation, the week really has gone to Hell in a handcart. And taken Rafferty with it..

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Geraldine Evans is a Londoner but moved to Norfolk in the UK in 2000.

She has been writing since her twenties, but it was only when she hit the milestone age of thirty that she actually began finishing anything. She then wrote a novel a year for six years before she was published. That first published novel was a romance, but she then switched to crime and DEAD BEFORE MORNING, the first book in what became her now 15-strong Rafferty & Llewellyn cozy procedural series, was taken from Macmillan's slush pile and published. They sold it in turn to St Martin's Press and Worldwide (pb). Her other publishers include Hale, Severn House and Isis (audio).

And thus began a writing career covering eighteen traditionally-published novels and two indie-published. Geraldine Evans decided to turn down her publisher's latest contract late in 2010 after reading various blogs (Joe Konrath's, in particular) about self-publishing. It was the information that writers could actually earn a proper living that attracted her. And do you know? They were right! Goodbye hated day job! Hello freedom and joy in your work. As 'Del Boy' Trotter would say: 'Lovely jubbly'!
