James Bagnall, the Associate Business Editor at The Ottawa Citizen, has been reporting on business since 1978. He began his career at The Financial Post and The Financial Times of Canada before joining the Citizen in 1993. Bagnall has won multiple business writing awards and has also been nominated four times for National Newspaper Awards -- and won in 2013 for his coverage of Nortel Networks. He spent months during 2012 in the courtroom of Judge Frank Marrocco, providing coverage of one of the most complicated trials in Canadian business history. Bagnall’s reporting is informed by his considerable international experience which he gained through organizing and writing special reports on South Africa, India, Israel, Germany and Britain. Bagnall has also written extensively on the federal government and its many agencies. He graduated in 1975 from University of Toronto’s Trinity College.
