Hannah More (1745-1833) was born in Bristol, England. Her father was a school headmaster and she had four very sociable sisters. She started schools for the education and moral advancement of poor village children. After Hannah’s spiritual awakening, she sought to counteract immoral influences in society. The "Cheap Repository Tracts" were the result, and with the help of others were very successful. She also wrote books of drama, poetry, hymns, fiction and religious instruction.
