Growing Up In California: A Memoir

Changes in lifestyle, environment and technology during the Great Depression, World War II and post World War II in California are recorded autobiographically.

Russell C. McGee, Jr. was born in Stockton, California in 1926 and spent his early life there. In the Army Air Corps during World War II, he worked as a cryptographer with duty stations in the Greenland and the Azores. He received a baccalaureate in Physics from the University of California in Berkeley in 1950, but spent his entire working career as a computer programmer and software developer. After retirement, he and his wife have enjoyed life together, first on the Central Coast of California then in Tucson, Arizona. He enjoys bird watching, water walking in the local public pools, environmental activism, walking, reading and writing.
