Gunshots in Another Room: The Forgotten Life of Dan J. Marlowe

The amnesiac hardboiled writer Dan J. Marlowe (1914-1986) was so good that author Stephen King dedicated a book to him, but his life was more interesting than his books. This biography interweaves the story of Marlowe with that of his bank robbing friend Al Nussbaum, who became a sucessful mystery writer himself, and of Bobby "One-Eye" Wilcoxson, Nussbaum's partner, who committed a savage murder when he got out of prison. Marlowe's own story describes how he lost his memory and struggled to regain his writing ability and to sort out his experiences with kinky sex.
