A Guidebook To Progressive Church proceeds through !ve
sections. First, you receive an invitation. These short, sometimes
quirky, chapters o"er a few ways "in" to progressive church life
and thought. Next, we examine some keywords in progressive
church life-prayer, discipleship, pastor, Freidigkeit (a fancy
German word for brazen freedom), and Jesus. Next, we include
a series of chapters on beliefs, like atheism, the meaning of
forgiveness, demythologization, ecumenical and interfaith work,
the creed, salvation, and sacred texts. Then, because intersectionality
plays such a central role in contemporary progressive
Christian re$ection, we look at topics of intersection like
climate change, women’s work, neurodiversity, queering,
respectability, and Critical Race Theory. Finally, we include two
sections, one on polis and one on praxis, the actual daily practice
of progressive church and its impact on and relationship to
the wider public political milieu or commons.
