Even Bearded Men Cried is the memoir of a young German girl. Torn from her childhood and orphaned in 1938 at the age of 12, Brigitte Speidel was housed by an imperious grandmother before being sent to a Hitler Youth boarding school. She nursed in Austria in the midst of Allied bombs during the war, tending concentration camp victims after it. Expelled from Austria, she became a beggar refugee without hope in her own country, but found redemption, love and new faith in a new country, Canada. The book includes maps and photographs.
