Funky Chicken

This wacky, rhyming children's picture book will delight children and adults alike. Funky Chicken: A Bushy Tale of Crocs and Chooks, was first published in 2013 and is the first book of the Funky Chicken series. The second book, Funky Chicken: Chooks in Space, Funky Chicken’s search for ‘intergalactic funkiness’, was published in 2015.

This beautiful book tells the story of how the Australian animals decided to take a vote on which animal is the most unique. There are many contenders including kookaburra, wombat, tree frog, possum and even a sneaky old crocodile! Much to their surprise, they are all upstaged when the rare ‘Funky Chicken’ take the prize!  Unfortunately, he has trouble controlling his instant rise to animal fame, and after much bragging and braying (upsetting his fellow animals), and a near miss from Sneaky Old Croc, he learns a lesson about celebrating his uniqueness in a much more humble fashion!

Funky Chicken: A Bushy Tale of Crocs and Chooks was short-listed in the 2014 Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards and is in the Australian curriculum (Queensland C2C – year 3 poetry). This title is also in the Queensland (Australia) and Victoria (Australia) Premier's Reading Challenge book list.
