The Sweet Scent of Murder: No. 2 in the Mavis Davis Series

A teenage girl from a well-to-do family disappears. Was she kidnapped or did she runaway?

P.I. Mavis Davis’ high school worker, Candy, brings in the girl’s older brother to hire Mavis. Mavis doesn’t work for kids, she says. Kids have no authority to hire anyone.

BUT the young man throws money at Mavis and flees before she can throw it back. After Candy pleads and cajoles, Mavis agrees to spend a minimum amount of time on the case. Shortly after Mavis arrives to meet the parents-who are entertaining their friends at a garden/pool party-the father drops dead.

When the police arrive, they order Mavis to butt out, which always sets her teeth on edge. Although she’s been retained and is determined to meet her obligations, she also fears that whoever has the kids may also have killed their father.

As she does a deep dig into the family’s history, Mavis discovers all is not as it appears. Some long unresolved matters beg for another look. Determined to get to the bottom of everything, Mavis realizes the best thing for the kids might not necessarily be to restore them to their mother.

Because of her missteps, Mavis is arrested and charged as an accessory to kidnapping. Once sprung from jail, she must solve the case to clear her name. Even her cop boyfriend, Ben, can’t help her this time-or rather, won’t. If she can’t resolve the case soon, Mavis is facing a life sentence!
