This volume locates social psychology in the context of contemporary societies in an increasingly globalizing world where time, space and relationships are reshaped by powerful information, communication, and travel technologies.
Girishwar Misra is formerly a Professor of Psychology at the University of Delhi. Earlier he taught at Gorakhpur University 1970-1079), Allahabad University (1979-1983), Bhopal University (1983-1993), before joining as Professor, Delhi University in 1993, where he served for the rest of his career. He served as Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya in Wardha, Maharashtra, (2014-2019). His teaching, research and publications focus on cultural and indigenous psychology, human development, and self and identity, and emotions. He has been President of the National Academy of Psychology, India; Senior Fulbright Fellow at Swarthmore College, Philadelphia and University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; and Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Delhi. He has been visiting fellow at Rohr University, Bochum, Germany, University of Sussex, Britain and New School of Social Research, New York. He is a recipient of National Fellowship by the NAOP, and National Fellowship of the Indian Council of Social Science Research ( ICSSR), S.C. Mitra Memorial Award of Asiatic Society, and Honorary Fellowship of International Association of Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP).
Purnima Singh is Institute Chair Professor at IIT Delhi, Delhi, India.
Earlier she was a Professor at University of Allahabad. She is a Past President and a
Fellow of National Academy of Psychology. She is editor of Psychological Studies
(Springer). She is on the Editorial Board of International Journal of Psychology.
She is also in the Executive Committee of International Association of Cross-
Cultural Psychology and President-Elect of Division3-Psychology and Societal
Development of the International Association of Applied Psychology. Her research
interests include justice, intergroup relations, and structural variables and education.
