Economics of Public and Private Healthcare and Health Insurance in India

This book critically examines the public and private healthcare systems in India. Analysing the current scenario of health insurance in India, it studies the inadequacy of public healthcare services and unaffordability of private health care facilities.

Brijesh C. Purohit is Professor at Madras School of Economics (MSE), Chennai, India. Prior to joining the MSE in 2008, he served at various academic Institutes in India which include Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad; Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur; Indian Institute of Health Management and Research, Jaipur; National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi; and Central University of Rajasthan. His career, spanning over more than 30 years, includes research, teaching, training, and consultancy. He was also South Asian Vising Scholar at Queen Elizabeth college, Department of Development Studies, University of Oxford, UK. He holds a PhD in economics from the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore, India.
