Hitoshi Iba has a PhD from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1990. From 1990 to 1998, he was with the Electro Technical Laboratory (ETL) in Ibaraki, Japan. He has been with The University of Tokyo, Japan since 1998. He is currently a Professor at the Department of Information and Communication Engineering, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo. His research interest includes evolutionary computation, genetic programming, bioinformatics, foundations of artificial intelligence, and robotics. He is a founding associate editor of the Journal of Genetic Programming and Evolvable Machines (GPEM). He used to be a funding associate editor of IEEE transactions on Evolutionary Computation. He has (co-)authored more than 200 papers and authored more than 40 books in English, Japanese, and Chinese. He is also an underwater naturalist and experienced PADI divemaster having completed more than a thousand dives.
