The Reluctant Banker

Born into a banking family, Martin spent most of his adult life resisting the ambition of his father that he take his place in the family bank in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. While trying to avoid this fate, he worked in a hotel, lost most of his money to a blackmailer, connived to conceal the operation of a brothel, brokered a solution to a dispute as to the ownership of a substantial French property, and supervised the construction of a dam in the Moroccan desert. He eventually stopped fighting his father’s ambition for him, but there was a final unexpected twist in the tale.
