Nine-year old Amira is a dreamer and a musician. She loves her fantasy world of magic carpets and adventures as much as she loves her real life in Aleppo, Syria, a vibrant city full of music, history and evocative smells and flavours. When the fighting comes to her city, Amira is eventually forced to flee Syria one fateful night with her parents and little brother Rammi, and ends up in a desolate refugee camp in Turkey after crossing the border illegally. Amira initially makes secret plans to escape from the camp, but her family needs her when her father is falsely accused of a crime. Working together with two friends from the camp and a unique teacher, Amira battles to clear her father’s name, and in the process learns many things about herself and the world inside and outside the camp.
