Relationships can be difficult. How does an unguided young mind adequately navigate the lines of commitment, moral obligation, personal well-being, existential anxiety and societal expectations while in one? How do young men, typically renowned for their eloquent expression of emotion, express themselves? How did Francis Barnes do it? Not well. But he tried.
Francis is committed to his girlfriend, Beatrice. However, as time passes he is becoming more and more aware of how much she has masked her life-long mental illness from him. Despite his good intentions and well-meaning interventions Beatrice’s mental health continues to decline and she slips into a depression that Francis isn’t sure he has the tools to handle. Despite their years long relationship he contemplates if they should break up, but worries that severing her last remaining tie to some semblance of sanity may drive her to a depth of darkness from which she may not return.
