"The percentage of English Language Learners in our nation’s schools has risen to nearly 10% of our total public school population. By 2025, this percentage is predicted to rise to nearly one quarter of the total population. Despite these dramatic demographic shifts, as a country, we have made little progress in narrowing persistent achievement disparities between ELLs and their non-ELL peers. This book focuses on research-based strategies for content teachers to use in collaboration with English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teachers so that English learners (ELs) can successfully interact with grade level content. Although multiple approaches and protocols have been designed for scaffolding academic content (SIOP is one of the better known), this book aims to do so in the context of today’s rigorous content standards. Each strategy will be presented in an easy-to-follow, step-by-step format, followed by opportunities for readers to apply the strategies to their own contexts"--
