The future of work is all about the employee experience. For the past few decades organizations have been obsessed with employee engagement. Unfortunately with all the institutes, surveys, and rankings out there, most organizations haven’t really changed at all and most employees around the world still remain disengaged at work. That’s because engagement is a shortsighted and incomplete look at what organizations need to focus on. Today engagement has replaced the annual review - it’s done once a year, only focuses on one thing (culture), is a massively long questionnaire, and is not entirely understood. Another reason for this is that organizations keep looking at things from their own perspective vs the employee’s perspective.
The next evolution of employee engagement is employee experience which I define the as a combination of three environments inside of our organizations; the physical environment, the technological environment, and the cultural environment. This book will explore all three of these areas to help organizations realize how to create environments where employees actually want to show up to work.
